Becket

Thomas Becket was the Archbishop of Canterbury. He rose from lowly origins to become Lord Chancellor of England under Henry II. Their partnership worked so well that Henry made him Archbishop of Canterbury. The two fell out over the power of the church and how the crown could interfere with religious life. Although they momentarily reconciled, Becket would anger Henry again and cause him to call for someone to rid him of this meddlesome/turbulent/troublesome priest. Four knights took his words somewhat literally and killed Becket in his own cathedral on the 29th of December 1170.
