How did Hilary lose the election.jpg

"How could sixty million people vote for someone they heard on tape bragging about repeated sexual assaults? How could he attack women, immigrants, Muslims, Mexican Americans, prisoners of war, and people with disabilities  and as a businessman, be accused of scamming countless small businesses, contractors, students and seniors and still be elected to the most powerful position in the world?" Hillary Clinton on Donald Trump's election.

Who is Hillary Clinton?

Hillary Clinton was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1947.  She was regarded as an excellent student at school.  She would go on to Wellesley College and the onto Yale Law School where she meet Bill Clinton.

Despite early dalliances with the Republicans and in particular Nelson Rockefeller's brand of conservatism she would help campaign for Democrat George McGovern in the 1972 presidential election.

She would follow Bill Clinton to Arkansas where had a successful career as a lawyer.  She would become First Lady of Arkansas when Bill Clinton became Governor of the state in 1979.  She would then go on to support his campaign for President in 1992.  His success would make her First Lady of the USA.

As First Lady she would try to push through Health Reforms.  Unfortunately for both Clintons, her policies were unsuccessful.  Worse was to follow as Ken Starr an Independent Counsel began to make links between the Clintons and the Whitewater Scandal.  The situation worsened when accusations from a Paul Jones emerged who claimed that Bill Clinton had sexually harassed during his time as Arkansas Governor.  Things spiraled when the Drudge Report ran a news story of Bill Clinton having an affair with a White House Intern called Monica Lewinsky.  Bill Clinton stated with Hilary at his side, "I deny having sexual relations with that woman."  It soon became apparent he had.  The House of Representatives would vote impeach him however he was found not guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice by the Senate.

When Bill Clinton's time in office ended after two terms Hilary would become Senator of New York from 2001.  She ran against Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination for President in 2008 and lost.  Obama would offer her the position of Secretary of State in his cabinet which she accepted and served from 2009-2013.  She would leave in 2013 to help the Clinton Foundation.

In 2015 she launched her campaign to become President of the USA.  She defeated Bernie Sanders and would go on to lose to Donald Trump.

Did she lose because of her incumbency?

"It was exceedingly difficult for a party to hold onto the the Whitehouse for more than eight years.  It is really difficult for a candidate to be the candidate of change when you are from the party who has been in power for 8 years." Hillary Clinton.

In recent memory you have to look at Ronald Reagan who was in power for 8 years followed by his Vice President George Bush Senior but he was kicked out of office by Bill Clinton the Democrat.  For Democrats you are going back further and looking at Roosevelt through to Truman.
